This explains how Black Atlas collects and uses personal information through blackatlastravel.co.uk, including the enquiry form, live chat, website concierge, destination finder, cruise search and consultation booking.

Who is responsible

Black Atlas is a trading name of Jason Stuart Eric Black, who decides how your personal information is used (the "controller").

What we collect

When you make an enquiry: your name, email address, telephone number (optional), date of birth (optional), how you'd like to be contacted, where and when you'd like to travel, how many are travelling, your budget, what it should cover, and anything else you choose to tell us. We also record when you confirmed you'd read this information.

When you use live chat: your name, email address and the messages you send.

When you book a consultation: your name, email address, the time you choose and any notes you add.

When you use the concierge or destination finder: the text you type (see AI features below).

When you browse the site: limited analytics information (see Website analytics below).

Please don't send passport, payment or medical details through the website. If they're needed later, we'll ask for them securely and only when necessary.

How we use it, and our legal basis

Keep records of enquiries and bookingsLegal obligations, for example tax and accounting (Article 6(1)(c)), and our legitimate interest in running the business properly (Article 6(1)(f))
Understand how the website is used and fix faultsOur legitimate interest in running a website that works: Article 6(1)(f)
Accessibility, mobility or health needs you choose to share for a tripYour explicit consent: Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a)

We don't use your information for automated decisions that affect you, and we don't sell it.

Live chat

Message Black Atlas connects you to a person, not a bot. It runs on Chatwoot, a service Black Atlas operates itself. Messages are kept with your enquiry. Chat isn't a booking confirmation or an emergency support line.

Consultation booking

Consultations are booked through Cal.com, which Black Atlas runs on its own systems at book.blackatlastravel.co.uk. We use your booking details to hold the appointment and contact you about it.

AI features: destination finder and concierge

Both features send the text you type to OpenAI so it can suggest ideas.

Suggestions are inspiration only, not booking or travel advice. Please don't type personal or sensitive information into either feature.

Cruise search

The cruise search is provided by Widgety. When you use it, Widgety receives the technical information it needs and the searches you make. Please don't enter traveller details into it. Widgety's own privacy information applies.

Website analytics

We use PostHog's EU service to understand which pages and links are useful. It records the page, the website you came from and certain clicks, using a random identifier that lasts only for your browsing session. It doesn't collect what you type into forms and doesn't build a profile of you.

You can turn analytics off for this browser using the switch below. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, analytics stays off automatically. Turning it off doesn't affect enquiries or chat.

Fixing website problems

If something goes wrong on the site, technical details about the error (such as the page and browser type) may be recorded so we can fix it. This monitoring is run by Black Atlas and isn't used to identify you.

Who we share information with

We never share your details with other companies for their own marketing.

Information processed outside the UK

Some providers, including OpenAI and Cloudflare, may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. If you book travel abroad, suppliers in your destination will receive the details they need to provide your trip.
