The Eiffel Tower, Seine and Parisian buildings in warm autumn morning light.

France

Paris

Paris works for art, food, architecture and neighbourhood days that do not need to be rushed. Plan one main booking each day, leave space for walks and cafés, and choose the base carefully so the city feels connected rather than like a list of sights.

THE OVERVIEW

A first stay can combine the Louvre or Musée d'Orsay with the Seine, Saint-Germain and an evening around the Marais. Return visits are better shaped around a smaller area, a temporary exhibition and a few restaurants booked in advance. Three to five nights gives enough time for the city itself, while Versailles or another day trip usually deserves an extra day.

Getting around

Metro, RER, bus and tram form a dense network, but step-free access is uneven. Buses and selected rail routes may be more workable than the nearest Metro. Check Île-de-France Mobilités and operator information for the complete journey, lift status, engineering and current ticketing.

Details should be checked for your travel dates.

When to go

Late spring and early autumn suit long walks and terraces, while winter gives museums and restaurants more weight. Summer heat and major events can change the pace sharply. Use official forecasts and live crowd information.
